Sint Gummaruscollege Lier / Lier / Belgium (Coordinator)

Sint-Gummarus High School stands for more than 130 years of tradition when it comes to education in Lier. Currently, it has 1170 pupils and 146 teachers, and it offers mainly theoretical study programmes in the curriculum. Our school prepares pupils for higher education with the aim of obtaining a bachelor’s or master’s degree. The different study programmes are divided in various disciplines and fields of study: Social Studies (Humanities), Language & Culture (Greek-Latin, Latin- Mathematics, Latin, Latin-Modern languages, Modern Languages-Mathematics), Science and Technology (Mathematics- Science, Science, STEM), and Economic Studies. In the latter field of study, the pupils can choose between theoretical study programmes (Economics Mathematics and Economics-Modern Languages) on the one hand, and more practice- oriented programmes (Business Studies and Applied bookkeeping-Computer Sciences) on the other. ‘Care for learning and living’ was consciously chosen as the central idea behind our pedagogical project. After all, our school wants to serve as a preparation for later full life, in which, apart from knowledge and skills, facing and dealing with differences between people and in society is of crucial importance. The pupils who will take part in the project are 12 - 14 years old. This conforms to a masterplan of our school who wants to send out students. The core concepts in this masterplan are team work, projects, ICT and multilingual communication, because these qualities are of primordial importance in further studies and on the jobmarket. Furthermore, these core concepts neatly tie in with Erasmus+.
Our school offers a wide CLIL range. History, Biology, Mathematics, Art History, Chemistry and Economics are not only
taught in Dutch, but in English or French as well. In doing so, we attempt to stimulate our pupils to improve their language
skills.

Stichting Voortgezet Onderwijs Aruba - NETHERLANDS - ARUBA (Partner)

Colegio Arubano was founded in 1959 by the Foundation for Secondary Education Aruba (S.M.O.A.), which was created by the Diocese of Curaçao. Colegio Arubano is the first havo/vwo school on the island to grow in the past 50+ years to approximately 2500 students. Currently, the school accounts for about 1400 students and 89 teachers, and 33 paid staff.
We work hard every day to meet the challenges of the changed youth and society, to find a solution for bottlenecks such as a shortage of classrooms, overdue maintenance of the buildings, absenteeism, and a low percentage of graduates for final exams. But the school, the teachers, and the alumni enjoy a lot of respect in Aruban society. Two years ago the foundation changed its legal name to S.V.O.A.

When Colegio Arubano was founded in 1959 it started as a Roman Catholic school, but its doors have been open to all denominations since its inception. This means that education is given from a broadly Christian basis with respect for other beliefs. A dynamic multicultural society and global changes demand a new perspective on human development in general. Colegio Arubano likes to see this dynamic reflected within its walls. For this, entering into and maintaining external relations (both on the island and beyond) is of particular importance.
Colegio Arubano is a school in which the acquisition of professional knowledge and skills is central. The teacher plays a crucial part in this role: he/she is professionally competent, has a good didactic background, and knows how to transfer the subject matter to his students in an inspiring and attractive way. Colegio Arubano is a prestigious school for havo and vwo, the first of two in Aruba, where strict requirements are set for students. The school is primarily there for the students (and for the parents). The management of the school is cooperative, delegates where possible and necessary, and develops a policy that takes the views and wishes of all sections of the school into account as much as possible. After all, this guarantees support for the necessary improvements.
